This weeks LiveMakeDesign features freelance illustrator Sandra Dieckmann.

Sandra is a freelance illustrator who lives and works in her home studio in East London. However, she is also a part time manager for the RSPCA. Living in Germany as a child, in 2002 Sandra made the decision to move to the UK for new adventures and education. Since being in the UK, she studied Fashion Design in 2006 which then made her realise she had a passion for illustration and graphic design. She graduated in 2009 from the University of Westminster with a first class honours degree in Graphic Information Design.

After initially studying Fashion Sandra didn't feel like that it was for her so she decided to try Graphic Design instead. This made her realise that she preferred to create art and designs by letting her heart connect to the paper instead of having to program or have to work on layouts all day.

While living in Germany as a child, she was given the freedom to explore, read, draw and create- all of which has now led her into her life now. As she lived in a small village growing up she was able to explore the woods and surrounding areas which have inspired a very large amount of her illustrations. Since creating her own illustrations she has developed a style that is very detailed, colourful and graphic while not having them to over the top or too busy.

During her design process, it mainly kicks of from what she ever finds and inspires her. She will always start with the animal she wants to work with and make sure it is perfect before moving onto anything else. After this she will then complete any colouring she has to do for this design and will then develop the background/illustration.

Yesterday, Sandra launched her website which you can view here
