This weeks LiveMakeDesign features illustrator Emmeline Pidgen.

I found Emmeline's work during my webdesign and illustration units at college earlier this year while trying to get some inspiration for my own work. I fell in love with her illustrations straight away and have been following her through twitter and her blog ever since! I also wanted to feature Emmeline today because a few weeks back I entered a giveaway for her a new book she illustrated called "One More Candle".

The new book is written by author Merry Susiarjo and was released on September 1st. The book is about Nola, a girl who has her birthday very close to her sister, Betty. Through the story you learn that Nola becomes upset at the fact that every year she has one candle less than her sister. Emmeline's illustrations make the book come to life and definitely help bring the emotion into the story.

Since graduating from University with a BA (Hons) in illustrations, Emmeline has grown a wide spectrum with clients from all over the world. Some of her clients include the likes of Far Far Away Books, American Greetings and Anorak Magazine.

Emmeline has also been successful in publishing herself as her first picture book 'The Flyaway Blanket' won the Gold Award for bedtime stories- picture books in the prestigious Mom's Choice Awards 2012. Her second major picture book was called 'Silverstar and The New Year' was released last year. Earlier this year she was also short listed as one of five nominees for the Design Week Rising Star Award 2013.

In her work, she is very known for her strong use of colour, character and emotion in her illustrations. She also tries to make her illustrations appealing to both children and adults- which she does very well in my opinion!
